Noel Cornel Alegre

He has scaled the mountains and lived with the Subanun tribe of Lakewood, Zamboanga del Sur for almost two years; he did the same in Miarayon,Talakag, Bukidnon with the Talaandig tribe; he was one of the staff who helped the Higaonon of Sumilao, Bukidnon on their “Fast for the Forest” in Manila that got the attention of President Corazon C. Aquino; he followed-up Melody, a Kabihug Aita of Labo, Camarines Norte; he was a budding researcher when he got involved with CALABARZON development agenda – all for his interest in land use change. His romances with the upland people have witnessed the kidnappings of his close friends by the Abbu Sayaf: Merly Mendoza, Fr. Luciano Binedetti, PIME and Fr.Angelo Biancat, PIME.

Now he moved downhill with the same passion on land use change. Currently he is captivated with urban social geography as he tries to tie it up with urban heritage issues. His new found passion brought him to study the major cities in Southeast Asia and Germany from 2007 to 2011. His involvement with urban social geography is documented in this site: http://www.forum-urban-futures.net/contacts/participants/mr-noel-cornel-alegre

Currently he’s making himself busy in his study on the gentrification of the old city core of Cagayan de Oro City.

Other areas that interest him include: Anthropology of development (development issues affecting upland and lowland environment; gender and development; urban heritage and development; peace and development), Demography, Good Governance, Conflict Resolution, and Indigenous knowledge.
